New Year, New Me and Easing into 2024

Spread the love

I absolutely love a Resolution or Goal. Trying to come up with things I want to improve is always an enjoyable time, even if I do occasionally get depressed.

For 2024, I decided to hold off on making any Resolutions and working on them for January. In our house, January is made up of snow days, sick days and one very important birthday celebration. Thinking about what I want to accomplish for the year takes a back seat. Plus I get to see what everyone on the internet is doing.

I did ban myself from any non-essential shopping for January and based on my checking account, that was a good idea.

2024 Resolutions:

Find a hobby.

I’m currently considering embroidery. I feel like it would give me something to do with my hands and eyes in public that isn’t being on my phone.

Start running again.

I stopped running in 2022 due to life and just never got back into it. I signed up for the Des Moines Women’s 5k and 10k in May. Spring is basically here, so I have no excuses to not get started.

Buy furniture for the main floor.

We’ve been in our house since December 2021. It’s time. People are starting to get concerned. Why is the idea of commiting to furniture turn me into anxiety mush?

Only buy “non-essentials” once a quarter.

I started this one in January and it is hard. I miss my little dopamine hits.

Get a will + guardianship plan in order.

Because I’m a mom and grownup and should start acting like it.

Start an IRA.

See above. Also, figure out what an IRA is and how it works.

Theodore’s Resolutions:

Do more science.

Theodore’s decided he’s going to be a scientist when he grows up. I try to support him, but finding science projects for 7 year olds that I can understand is hard.

Learn Karate.

Do I know what he’s going to do with this skill? No. Am I signing him up next month? Yes.

Go to Science Museums with my Uncles.

Trips are scheduled. Flights are booked. Casually working on what other fun will be had.

Catch more Pokemon.

sigh. I had assumed in high school that Pokemon would not be a trend that followed me into adulthood. I still do not get it. But Pokemon walks are excellent dog walks.
